Merrill Sovner is a PhD candidate in political science and a research fellow at the Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society at the Graduate Center, City University of New York. She previously worked as a program officer and program deputy director for the Open Society Foundations, as well as part of the evaluations team at the Atlantic Philanthropies at the end of its grantmaking.
