Nina Eliasoph is a sociology professor at the University of Southern California and the author of Avoiding Politics: How American Produce Apathy in Everyday Life, Making Volunteers, The Politics of Volunteering, and many articles including The Mantra of Empowerment Talk. She has worked in community radio and on many grassroots political campaigns.
