Kumar is professor at Andhra University, Department of Social Work. He is specialised in personel management, labour welfare, child labour, child abuse and the unorganised sector. Together with Peter Newell et al, he has written a chapter in the book Rights, Ressources and the Politics of Accountability. Besides working as a scholar he also appears as a consultant for NGO's.He has also produced 5 Ph.Ds and 3 M.Phills, published ten articles in the National and International accredited journals as well as completed fifteen major and minor research projects. Finally he received the Indian International Friendship Society's Bharath Jyothi Award.
