Richard Jolly has been a leading development
economist since the 1970s. He was the Director of
the Institute for Development Studies at the University of Sussex (1972-81),
where he is presently an
Honorary Professor and Research Associate. He is a former Associate
Secretary-General of the United
Nations, and a Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF (1981-95), where he
supported the “child survival
revolution” and the conception of “structural development with a human face”.
Dr Jolly was a leading
architect of the UNDP Human Development Reports.
