Tom Vickers is a social scientist and activist based in North East England. He is a Lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences and Languages at Northumbria University and the author of Refugees, Capitalism and the British State: Implications for social workers, volunteers and activists (Ashgate 2012). His current research addresses the meaning of 'austerity' for recent migrants to Britain.
