**Anthony Barnett (London,** [**OK**](http://ourkingdom.opendemocracy.net/?ref=opendemocracy.net)**):** Fifteen progressive heads of state have touched down in the UK to summit about the way forward. The Foreign Secretary has greeted the occasion in [The Times](http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/guest%5Fcontributors/article3671374.ece?ref=opendemocracy.net) with a concise 1,000 word summary of how progressives need to fuse the traditions of social democracy and radical liberalism into a "single narrative". He concludes with a Delphic warning that encompasses progressive conservatives as well

The danger for both main parties in Britain is clear: New Labour 1997 is the model of how to win, but new Labour 1997 is not right for today. It is the absence of conviction not the absence of pragmatism that is the greatest danger. It is only by drawing cleverly on its past that the Labour party will ensure its future

300 other progressive summiteers, policy makers and think tankers, not including OK, are meeting at the moment, under the auspices of Policy Network. You can see their agenda [here](http://www.policy-network.net/events/events.aspx?year=&id=2114&ref=opendemocracy.net). And tomorrow, there will be an [official](http://progov.pm.gov.uk/?ref=opendemocracy.net), political summit, which openDemocracy's Editor-in-Chief Tony Curzon Price will be blogging live (if their wifi works).
