Regular OurKingdom readers will be aware of Peter Mandelson's plans to take upon himself the power to deputise non-governmental third parties (potentially including record companies and movie studios) to force internet service providers to hand over data on and disconnect users who may be downloading copyrighted material. [Felix Cohen](http://www.opendemocracy.net/ourkingdom/felix-cohen/peter-mandelson-wants-to-turn-off-your-internet) and [I](http://www.opendemocracy.net/ourkingdom/thomas-ash/britains-new-internet-law) both wrote about it in these pages, and [Guy Aitchison](http://www.opendemocracy.net/ourkingdom/guy-aitchison/shocking-new-threat-to-web-freedom) pointed to Cory Doctorow's original reporting on the subject (it should be noted that Doctorow's 'point 1' does not accurately represent the current proposal). Since then, a [petition](http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/dontdisconnectus/?ref=opendemocracy.net) against these moves on the Number 10 website has gained over thirty thousand signatures, and ISPs have claimed that the rates they charge may have to go up by [£25 a year](http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/tech%5Fand%5Fweb/the%5Fweb/article6969105.ece?ref=opendemocracy.net) to pay for the costs of enforcement.

Portia Barnett-Herrin sends in this satirical Dan Bull video, featuring an irate netizen reading out a letter to Peter Mandelson set - optimistically? - to the tune of Lily Allen's [Never Gonna Happen](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utg9Oe1Frqc&ref=opendemocracy.net):

Those of you on Twitter can follow the [Digital Economy Bill](http://twitter.com/digiconbill?ref=opendemocracy.net) as it progresses through Parliament - and while you're there, why not visit the OurKingdom team via the addresses given in the 'Follow OurKingdom' box to the right of this post? Guy in particular is a prolific tweeter.
