As already noted, there are many excellent UN resolutions that simply remain on the books. Even when countries signed on CEDAW (and some even ratified it - unlike my country, Israel), little if anything has been done. I have a sense that as much as we work on this - holding local, regional, national conferences, even international ones, we accomplish much in broadening the numbers of women aware of the problems, but we do not seem to be reaching the men - especially the male decision-makers. Perhaps we need a campaign to meet with and directly inform appropriate academics, politicians, think-tanks as well as ngo's and the media - perhaps especially the media. To some degree we try to do some of this here - refusing to attend relevant conferences that do not include women speakers, providing a list of women in appropriate fields, and local meetings to discuss the issue. But clearly this is not enough. Perhaps we need some high-level outside intervention - from visiting policy-makers (male as well as female). Suggestions will be most welcome!!
