# Is Obama changing the south?

Some [Republicans](http://blogs.tampabay.com/buzz/2008/07/obamas-strength.html?ref=opendemocracy.net) seem to think so. He may not have the muscle to turn Republican bastions against John McCain in the presidential election, but some GOP representatives fear that Obama's mobilisation of black voters may have lasting consequences for congressional races throughout the region.
