**Tom Griffin (London,** [**OK**](https://www.opendemocracy.net/ourkingdom)**):** The Glenrothes by-election is [set to go ahead](http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk%5Fpolitics/7655805.stm?ref=opendemocracy.net) on Thursday, 6th November. The timing is not a surprise, as with a US presidential election on the Tuesday, the outcome won't be the big story of the week.

In any case,with the immediate [threat to Gordon Brown's premiership receding](http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk%5Fpolitics/7656057.stm?ref=opendemocracy.net), the poll may not be the date with destiny that many had expected.
