**Mission**

openDemocracy stands for democracy and human rights.

openDemocracy is committed to an open approach to reporting, analysing and discussing the world and the way we govern ourselves.

**Balance & neutrality**

We do not seek to be neutral, but we are passionately open to exploration and criticism of what we publish from all points of view.

**Editorial process**

Articles on openDemocracy are edited. Whether commissioned or unsolicited, articles are read by an editor before being published.

The aims of the editorial process are, as best we can, to assess contributions for honesty, accuracy, clarity, originality and relevance.

openDemocracy's editors collaborate through an editorial forum where they are able to comment on contributions, and debate them, mainly before but also after publication. This encourages joint responsibility for the articles published on openDemocracy.

Find out more about openDemocracy's [editorial team](http://www.opendemocracy.net/about/team).

**New ideas & debates**

openDemocracy's model aims to be open and flexible. We welcome approaches for new coverage: in the form of articles, engagement in debates or creation of new editorial projects on the oD platform.

**Submissions**

We welcome [submissions](http://www.opendemocracy.net/node/add/submission) and aim to answer all sensible submissions within three weeks, often much sooner.

**Comments and Forum posts**

openDemocracy has adopted post-comment moderation. All readers are able to report extreme, inaccurate, unsuitable or inappropriate comments to our moderation team.

**hNews for greater transparency of news on the web**

openDemocracy has worked with the UK's [Media Standards Trust](http://www.mediastandardstrust.org/home.aspx?ref=opendemocracy.net) to introduce[ hNews](http://valueaddednews.org/?ref=opendemocracy.net), a microformat for the web that allows clearer tracking of the production of news articles.
