*LocalismWatch is all about helping folk at the grassroots understand the localism agenda and exchange ideas. If you've got an upcoming event that you'd like to advertise, or better still, if you'd like advice about organising an event, contact us at* [*lairdryan@bignall.free-online.co.uk*](mailto:lairdryan@bignall.free-online.co.uk)

6.11.2014 **Northern Cities Summit**, **Leeds A joint venture by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, Carillion and the Centre For Cities** Answering the enigmatic question ‘How do we build on the North's strength to build an economic core at its heart?’ will be Nick Clegg and a host of local authority leaders and chief executives, academics and representatives of Local Enterprise Partnerships and think-tanks. Grassroots activists don’t seem to be part of the picture, but attendance is free on application to the Centre for Cities [rsvp@centreforcities.org](mailto:rsvp@centreforcities.org). More details of the event and the line-up of speakers at [http://www.centreforcities.org/events/2014/08/18/northern-futures-summit/](http://www.centreforcities.org/events/2014/08/18/northern-futures-summit/?ref=opendemocracy.net)

14.11.2014 **Leading the way: can metro mayors be introduced in major UK city-regions? Centre for Cities, London** This free event is the first of two round-table discussions on this issue, featuring Harvey Brooks, Mayor of Auckland, New Zealand. He replaced the previous governance system of a regional council and 7 local councils. As the Centre for Cities and the leaders of the UK’s ‘traditional’ national parties support elected mayoralty it would be interesting to get clarification on how they find this stance compatible with their stated commitment to empowered localities. 27.11 2014 **Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester - Localism and Neighbourhood Planning**: the School of Real Estate and Land Management will be holding the Conference on Localism and Neighbourhood Planning. The conference will focus on the delivery of effective neighbourhood planning on the ground, learning from the experiences of a range of community neighbourhood planners as well as professionals working in the field. It is open to public and the fee is £95 for delegates and £60 for Parish council delegates. For further information please email [localism.conference@rau.ac.uk](mailto:localism.conference@rau.ac.uk).
