Organisers of the expo have been trying to improve the fair's image as it comes under increasing criticism and attack for allowing a forum where countries with checkered human rights records can shop for equipment used in torture and violent repression. **Vacuum kaboom** According to the *New York Times*, "Russia has tested the world's most powerful [vacuum bomb](http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/12/world/europe/12briefs-BOMB.html?ex=1347249600&en=1c2b17d6cd25fc92&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&ref=opendemocracy.net), an explosive device unleashing a destructive shock wave with the power of a nuclear weapon". **Mexico leftists strike** The [Popular Revolutionary Army](http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/12/world/americas/12briefs-BOMBINGS.html?ex=1347249600&en=32688803e309f198&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&ref=opendemocracy.net), a Mexican leftist guerrilla group, has claimed responsibility for bombings on oil and gas pipelines in the state of Veracruz on Monday.
