Mariama is an editor and reporter for Agência Pública, and has a postgraduate degree in journalism from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco. She was a member of the independent investigative journalism group Marco Zero Conteúdo and a reporter for local newspaper Folha de Pernambuco. She has also written for The Intercept Brasil and Editora Abril, among others. She researches local journalism and so-called ‘news deserts’ in the north-east for Atlas da Notícia, a project to map local outlets across Brazil.
