
Mary Fitzgerald is a former editor-in-chief of openDemocracy. She is now director of expression at the Open Society Foundation, leading on global work to support journalism and tackle disinformation. Her writing has appeared in The Guardian, New York Times, New York Review of Books, Prospect and elsewhere. She has previously worked at Avaaz, the global campaigning organisation, and as a senior editor of Prospect magazine. She has served as a trustee for the human rights charity Reprieve, and on the editorial code committee of Impress, the UK press regulator.
