Siumee Keelan was inspired to create this exhibition after reading Barefoot Gen, the classic manga autobiographical story of artist Keiji Nakazawa, who was only seven years old when the atomic bomb fell on his home city Hiroshima. The manga unveils his family’s struggle for survival in the aftermath of the atomic devastations.

Mutsumi Tsuda was born in Nara, a city in southern Kyushu between Tokyo and Kyoto, in 1962. Much of her work is based on interviews with the children and grandchildren of Japanese people forcibly repatriated from the French Pacific colony of New Caledonia after the end of World War II.

Kazuya Kanemaru is an artist and musician. Born in Miyazaki Prefecture in 1959, he graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1984.
