Anthony Barnett (London, OK): There are reports that gleeful Labour MPs are celebrating the Prime Minister's handling of the banking and credit crisis as a 'Falklands' style triumph for him and the Labour Party, after he has slapped around Iceland with anti-terror laws. Somehow, I doubt it. It is true that Margaret Thatcher was responsible for triggering the Argentine invasion by insisting on the withdrawal of HMS Endurance, the only naval presence, as a cost-cutting measure. But Brown's responsibility for the over-exposure of the UK is of long-standing and the coming wreckage will be laid at his door even as he presents himself as providing 'world leadership'.
Gordon Thatcher? I don't think so

I suppose misusing anti-terror laws to freeze the assets of a foreign bank is slightly more acceptable than using them to prosecute people who drop litter or let their dog foul the pavement - in that you're not terrorising your own citizens.
I just thank God that the good Gord is watching over us.
He moves in mysterious ways, he giveth and he taketh away. He's just been on the radio demanding that petrol prices come down. And here's me thinking that it was him that put them up.
What a cretin.
Gordon is doomed. He will be given a good kicking in the up and coming by-election. As to next years Local and EU elections if I were the Labour Party I wouldn't even bother to put up candidates. Roll on a Tory Government who can clear up the mess. Lets hope Labour never hold power again. After all every single Labour Government has f***** up the economy.
