Moin is back

30 May 2005

We learned today that Moin would run as a candidate. Contrary to what he said before in protest against the Guardian Council.

He has released a "statement":http://www.emrouz.info/ShowItem.aspx?ID=2598&p=1

saying he still believes that the Guardian Council had violated the law and only public opinion had convinced him to stand in the presidential election!

There are only 19 days left to the election and official campaigning has begun and local media will begin airing the campaign advertisements starting tomorrow.

There were rumors that Karoubi may withdraw so the reformist camp would unite under one candidate, but today "Karoubi denied":http://web.peykeiran.com/net_iran/irannewstitles.aspx such rumors by saying he believes that the reformists will not be able to reach a consensus, and he would not withdraw for the sake of any other candidate.

The UK government is running a secretive unit inside Michael Gove’s Cabinet Office that’s accused of ‘blacklisting’ journalists and hiding ‘sensitive’ information from the public. Experts say they’re breaking the law – and it’s an assault on our right to know what our government is doing.

We’re not going to let it stand. We’re launching a legal battle – but we also need a huge public outcry, showing that thousands back our call for transparency. Will you add your name?
