The Youth Vote

18 May 2005

Looks as if Rafsanjani's pollsters are worried about his popularity among the youth. Take a look at the pictures that were recently taken at this meeting with some young Iranian boys and girls and you'll know why.

Iranian officials usually avoid appearing with young boys and girls who favor a more Westernized look over the semi-official look that is for instance preferred by TV anchors. (Men should not wear jeans and short sleeves and women should completely cover their hair and wear a "chador":http://www.answers.com/chador .)

The pictures were taken by Fars News which is not quite friendly toward Rafsanjani and seems to be supporting Larijani.

The UK government is running a secretive unit inside Michael Gove’s Cabinet Office that’s accused of ‘blacklisting’ journalists and hiding ‘sensitive’ information from the public. Experts say they’re breaking the law – and it’s an assault on our right to know what our government is doing.

We’re not going to let it stand. We’re launching a legal battle – but we also need a huge public outcry, showing that thousands back our call for transparency. Will you add your name?
