Colorado, formerly the ‘state of hate’, may be acting as a bell-weather for a sea-change in the shifting mire of American politics (today is a daft mixed metaphor day).
Salon has a very interesting story about arch-conservatives backing off from gay-bashing, just a little bit. Of further interest is that Republicans are now being attacked on what was a decisive vote-getter in 2004. Americans may have finally decided that there are more important (read real) threats out there.
For me this reinforces the point, which I like to make over and over again in a very loud voice, that this is not 2004, the electorate has shifted and things have changed. Also it may have just a little bit to the growing realisation that Republicans and evangelicals are just as likely to have homosexual tendencies – they’re just hypocritical about it.
