For the past few months neo-con author Francis Fukuyama has been under the spotlight at openDemocracy: leading thinkers discussed and debated the relevance of his"theory of modernisation" today - arguments which he recently replied to. Yesterday he was Jon Steward's guest for the Daily Show, promoting his book 'America at the crossroads'. You can watch the video here.
Elsewhere: Fukuyama was also involved with the think-tank Project for a New American Century, and a signatory of the organisation's 1998 letter urging then-president Bill Clinton to overthrow Saddam Hussein's regime. The think-tank's spine-chilling Statement of Principles - advocating for a strong military, increased defense and a greater American leadership- can be read here, and is signed by Paul Wolfowtiz, Donald Rumsfeld and other "hawks" alike.
