"When shall we open the champagne?" asked our hostess, over and over
again. And every time there was silence, because champagne seemd hoped for,
not called for.
"What will you do with the House, no Senate, no White House and no Supreme
Court?" I ask. The champagne is finally opened, because it has to be.
"Well, we can block the bad legislation," says one of the NY liberal guests at
the election night watch.
"And how will that position the Democrats for the 2008 presidentials? branded
as wreckers?" I ask.
"Oh! Let's drink to the beginning of the end anyway."
OK, I guess.
