Just a quick note to say that Barack Obama has unsurprisingly joined the race for the Democratic nomination. Huffpost reports how the ‘Candidacy fundamentally changes the contours of the Democratic landscape’. Presumably this means Hillary will have to significantly alter her campaign strategy as the LA times notes this has set up ‘a high-stakes competition for campaign money, staff and supporters’. The NY Times adds that things are getting a little crowded in there as more and more prospective Democrats seek the golden ticket.
The announcement itself did not have the visceral, if amusingly ill-timed, impact of John Edwards declaration in New Orleans, which was a fantastic piece of political theatre – incidentally also one that the Democrats have daftly decided not to replicate, choosing Denver as the venue for the ’08 coronation rather than taking Edwards lead and heading down to Louisiana, also missing an opportunity to save Mary Landrieu her Senate seat.
Anyway back to Obama a quick peek at barackobama.com gives us the inside scoop from the man himself: politics are sectarian – we must change them, planet is burning – we must do something, communities are breaking – we must re-engage with each other. For a useful bit of comparison try , and then get out there and vote. I mean sorry the Primary isn’t for a year and a bit. How about you continue to follow daft media speculation through this blog instead.
