Solana, Tony and Anthony are still probably drinking champagne (or enjoying a well deserve nap after a presumably long night) as the UK wakes up to the US elections results. Amongst the main details which are currently widely commented on the blogopshere, many high profile bloggers are commenting the appointment of Nancy Pelosi as the first female Speaker of the House. Pelosi comes off as fiercly partisan, as the BBC reports that her agenda for the first 100 hours of a House led by the Democrats would be as follow:
* bringing in rules to break links between lobbyists and legislation
* enacting all the 9/11 Commission recommendations
* raising the minimum wage
* expanding stem cell research
Also the source of e-mockery: the defeat of Rick Santorum, welcomed by many but toasted with champagne by journalist Dan Savage, who back in 2004 launched a massively popular campaign to, erm, "add meaning" to the Pennsylvania Senator's last name (the campaign's website shows up as the number 1 result when typing Santorum on Google).
