Denmark for Danes

10 December 2005
An effective new initiative to harass foreigners in Denmark: Only people who speak "good Danish" will be able to pass the government's new citizenship test - even if they are former torture victims. Soren Krarup from the Danish People's Party says he is "tired" of getting applications for dispensation from people who say they suffer from post-traumatic stress syndrome. Nice.

How is the British police crackdown bill a threat to democracy?

The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill creates new stop-and-search powers, allows the police to put more conditions on protests, and threatens Gypsy and Traveller rights to roam.

It's been met with mass protests from Bristol to Belfast. Is this bill a threat to our human rights – and is there any stopping it now?
