Is Latin America condemned to inequality? 2018 was an intense electoral year in Latin America, that confirmed the shift in political tides, and other than in the case of Mexico, conservative governments rose to power across the region.
It is important to reflect on such a vital turning point, on how progressive governments failed in their commitments to reduce inequality whilst lifting millions out of extreme poverty.
Through new measurements based on tax declarations, it has been demonstrated that the impact of the left-wing governments of Latin America regarding wealth redistribution was not quite what was expected.
In order to tackle this controversial issue, the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Freie Universitat Berlin and democraciaAbierta have come together to compose, edit and publish a series of articles under the title, Condemned to inequality?, currently available to download.
