openDemocracy.net is an independent medium which covers the key questions of our time with contributions from both renowned authors and marginalised voices. It uses the web to build and map intelligent discussions, opening up a democratic space: free thinking for the world. The site features ideas and argument that engage, annoy, stimulate and surprise. It also allows for active participation, making it possible to engage with all sides of the argument. In the three months leading up to the Madrid Summit, openDemocracy.net ran a series of online debates which attracted more than 30,000 participants and inspired many informal meetings around the world in solidarity with Madrid.
