England Awakes?England, Britain and multiculturalism: an OurKingdom exchange A mild awakening?, England's turn? by David Goodhart Navigation |
GB and DD exchange lettersGuy Aitchison (London, OK): Courtesy of Benedict Brogan's blog is the following exchange of letters between Gordon Brown and David Davis. Davis had written to the PM, as well as Cabinet Ministers, last week to challenge them to a debate on 42 days and the state of freedom in Britain. Davis even suggested Labour MPs have been gagged by Brown to stop them engaging in the debate. Here is Brown's reply:
And here is Davis's killer reply:
First reaction? Round one to Davis, I'd say. From his letter it's clear Brown wants to to keep this about Davis-Cameron, not about the issues. His point about PMQs is especially weak - is that really the only place we can debate politics? How about a proper one-on-one debate in a neutral forum with the audience asking questions. I enjoyed Davis's point about this serious debate happening "with or without you." He will be debating sans Brown this Thursday at a Guardian/Observor sponsored event, details here.
