Quote of the day

It will be interesting to see exactly which customs the Vatican is going to allow from the past rich five centuries of Anglican worship, life and thought.

Statement of Principles

openDemocracy, 2 - 04 - 2009
==

openDemocracy stands for democracy and human rights. We do not seek editorial balance, but we are passionately open to exploration and criticism of what we publish from other points of view.

Articles on openDemocracy are edited. Whether commissioned or unsolicited, they are read by an editor before being published. The aims of the editorial process are, as best we can, to assess contributions for honesty, clarity, originality and relevance.

There is an editorial forum where other editors have the opportunity (but not the obligation) to comment on contributions, and debate them, mainly before but also after publication. This ensures joint responsibility for the articles published on openDemocracy but also efficiency for the editor currently in charge of publishing.

openDemocracy is committed to open-sourcing news commentary, analysis and debate. There is a clear path to becoming a researcher, a member of the publishing team, a writer, an editor or a section-creator on openDemocracy. If you want to find out more go to the about section.

If my comment has to be "queried" for moderation how can you adhere to your principles of "honesty, clarity, originality and relevance". One cannot advocate a position on any issue less or more than moderate?
This certainly is not democracy, freedom of speech, press, etc. my friends. You are printing only what you choose in this manner and that my friends has to be biased in one direction or another, dead center perhaps, which acomplishes nothing but the perpetuation of the status quo. Debate, discussion, there's nothing to discuss one way or an other. Everyone is walking the tightrope of moderation, boring and totally unproductive. Wake up! Get real, solve a problem or two.

[moderator's note: moderation is not a selection process.   The screening process is to prevent commercial spam and/or posts which breach the rules regarding defamation, racism etc.  Otherwise all posts are published, no matter how controversial, boring or badly written they are. - BigC ]
