Akmal Ahmed Safwat

Akmal Ahmed Safwat is a consultant and Associate Professor of Clinical Oncology in Aarhus University Hospitals, Denmark. He emigrated from Egypt to Denmark in 2000. In 2006, Dr. Safwat joined forces with progressive minded Muslims to form Demokratiske Muslimer i Danmark in order to counter the influence of imams who practice a traditional, conservative Islam.

To take a stand is more important than to take a distance

Instead of distancing ourselves from terrorist crimes, as progressive Muslims we should confront the ultra conservative, violent Wahhabi/salafi version of Islam that is practised by both professional terrorists and despotic nations like Saudi Arabia.
