Andrés Salcedo

Andrés Salcedo is an Associate Professor in the Anthropology department, Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Since 2012 he and Adriana Parias have accompanied the El Oasis Neighborhood Committee and other community and environmentalist movements in Usme.

Resisting the city

In the face of rapid urban expansion and environmental degradation, the people of Usme, a periurban town of Bogotá, have mobilised to protect the local environment and strengthen community autonomy over the neighbourhood.
