Claire Blencowe lectures in Sociology at Warwick University. She has led collaborative projects including ‘Immanent Authority and the Making of Community’ and ‘Authority, Knowledge and Performance in Participatory Practice’. Publications include Biopolitical Experience: Foucault, Power & Positive Critique (Palgrave, 2012) and articles in Theory Culture & Society and History of the Human Sciences.

How to redistribute authority: participatory knowledge matters for democracy

If collaborative science or participatory budgeting does not incorporate some openness to calamity and creativity, to the world pushing back, then it will not have the effect of generating ‘real life’ experience and redistributing authority.
