Fiona Haughey
Fiona Haughey is currently a lecturer in Sociology and Criminology at Belfast Metropolitan college. Her doctoral research looked at racism in the context of Northern Ireland from a policy perspective. More specifically, my research focused on the implementation of the Racial Equality Strategy from policy to practice. This involved critically reviewing the policy framework at the macro-political level and an investigation of how anti-racist policy was implemented at the local government level, via qualitative research. All of my research was framed within a discussion of how racism is defined and theorised and the implications this might have for anti-racist policy. Overall my research interests encompass racism, anti-racism as well critical theories that explain the underlying roots of racism. I am also interested in the intersection between race, class and gender.
