Ismail Abu Shanab

Ismail Abu Shanab, born in 1940 near Ashkelon, was a leader and co-founder of the political wing of the Palestinian radical movement Hamas. He studied engineering in Egypt and the US. After his release from imprisonment (for establishing Hamas or helping plan the killing of an Israeli soldier), he was elected to the Gaza Engineering Association board. He was assassinated by Israel on 21 August 2003.
