Maria Suarez
Maria founded an award-winning feminist international radio station and has covered most UN Conferences since 1992, ranging from Rio de Janeiro, Vienna, Cairo, Beijing and Durban, and South Africa, to numerous other local, national and international conferences and events on issues of women and gender. She is presently co-director of Feminist International Radio Endeavor (FIRE) and is author of the book, Women´s Voices on FIRE, about the first 8 years of FIRE. She is also Professor of communications at the University of Denver and the Institute for Further Education of Journalists (FOJO) in Sweden (1995-2000). As a human rights activist and literacy teacher in 1970s and 1980s, Maria led and coordinated major education efforts at the grassroots level in El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras.
