Shannon Thomas

Shannon Thomas is a recent graduate from UC Berkeley, completing her double major in Middle Eastern Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies. She has had extensive experience in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including leading multiple diplomatic delegations to the Middle East and writing an honors thesis on collective memory of the Holocaust and the Nakba.

Collective memory, collective trauma, collective hatred

Trauma runs through the narratives of both Israelis and Palestinians in the form of the Holocaust and the Nakba. But in order to rationalize their moral superiority, both sides actively deny the other’s suffering.
