Blog Day 2006

Published:

 By Jessica Reed

Today is Blog Day 2006, an online event designed both to help avid blog-surfers discovering new or unknown Blogs and for everyone to celebrate the discovery of new people and new bloggers. We at Odtoday teamed up to bring you some suggestions. A couple of us at openDemocracy have chosen blogs we like (and added a short explanation) for you to discover:

Caterina.net - suggested by Sarah Lindon, Participation editor.

For web-wisdom, love of ideas, playfulness and the occasional book recommendation...

Philosophy football FC - suggested by Rob Cawston, Web Assistant.

PFFC play in the London Football League Division 1, and also organise a range of cultural and political events aimed at celebrating the beautiful game. They support campaigns for tackling racism and violence in football, and oppose the corporate dominance of the game. The blog is a mix of football commentary, politics, arts and culture reviews. Just started a week ago…

Line of Sight

After a research visit last summer I like delving in occasionally to see what’s going on in Buenos Aires. The blog covers events, culture and uncovers those small observations that bring life to a city, from art deco architecture and museums to political graffiti and the latest post - Buenos Aires utility outlets (!) revealing a hidden history of the urban sprawl.

Feministing - suggested by Jessica Reed, Participation assistant

A cleverly-edited, sassy and opinated blog focused on gender issues and feminism.

Apophenia

Fantastic source of information about youth and teen culture, networking sites, the web 2.0 and new media in general - it is written by Danah Boyd, a Phd student at Berkley who is currently writing her thesis analyzing Myspace.com.
