Holocaust cartoons & the " West's double standards"

Just as 200 Holocaust cartoons are currently displayed at a Iranian museum in Tehran, voices and opinions about the event are diverse and eclectic.

  • The Guardian's Lionel Shriver says the "contest for the cleverest cartoon about the Holocaust is meant to highlight the West's double standards": she's not outraged and does not want the cartoons to be censored.
  • The Jewish Telegraphic Agency reports Koffi Annan's stand ("people need to exercise that right responsibly and not use it as a pretext for incitement, hatred or for insulting beliefs of any community"), while Paris' socialist mayor, Bertrand Delanoe, openly condemned the exhibition.
  • David Boaz in Comment is Free asks whether or not our commitment to free speech as strong as we say it is.
  • On a semi-related note, the Huffington Post's Aaron Freeman blogged about Israeli anti-Semitic cartoon contest, which made him prouder than ever to be a Jew.
