This logo will represent Europe for the celebrations of the Treaty of Rome next year, and should 10 soon be recognised all over Europe. It is the outcome of a cross-national competition throughout Europe which involved many students from different countries. You can see the top 10 submissions here, and the three winning submissions here.
This competition is in line with the idea I discussed earlier today in the Local Democracy blog entry: it is another effort to get youth involved in the European political and cultural process. De facto it is also linked to the European Citizens Consultations, which we blogged.
In line with the Commissions Plan D (Democracy, Debate, Dialogue) this logo gives a graphic interpretation to the voice of all Europeans, especially the new generations.
The idea for this competition seems really nice and I am sure the winner, Polish student Szymon Skrzypczak, is thrilled at the idea of seeing his work extensively displayed in 25 countries. I just hope that the European youth will find a way to get involved and make its voice heard within the European project in the long run, and not just on the occasion of a competition...
