Biggest march since beginning of the war?

Published:

This Saturday thousands of protesters are jumping on buses to Washington DC to protest the war in Iraq. The behemoth coalition United for Peace and Justice is organising. Over a thousand organisations are represented.

I spoke to an organiser from the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) today and she said their buses from all boroughs of New York will be packed. Indeed, some are saying this will be the biggest march since the war began.

In case you sympathise, the brilliant new global activism website, Avaaz.org - is offering people who don't live in the United States a chance to have their country's flag represented. Any country that receives more than 500 individual signatures on their massive petition, gets their flag held up by real humans in DC. So far that means: Brazil, India, Portugal, Finland, Austria, Greece, Japan, Argentina, Slovenia, Turkey, Malaysia, Chile, Egypt...

And while you're browsing Avaaz's website, see if you can spot Paul Hilder's name in the blog. He was part of the original London garage-gang that created a spectacular website named: openDemocracy.
