openDemocracy 50.50 publishes critical and in-depth coverage of gender, sexuality and social justice. It is a platform for debate and analysis, embracing a plurality of voices from journalists and scholars to activists and citizens.
Through a variety of styles, from philosophical analysis to investigative journalism, 50.50 maps how patriarchy and social injustices are built into the daily fabric of our lives and elevates the voices of women's human rights defenders working on the front lines of resistance.
50.50 is edited by Claire Provost and is supported by a small collective of specialist commissioning editors. The site was founded in 2006 by Jane Gabriel, who edited the site for 10 years working with a collective of feminist commissioning editors.
If you have an idea for an article you would like to write for 50.50, please email [email protected] with the word "Pitch" in the subject line. Note that we primarily publish pieces of 1000-1200 words.
