David Ramsbotham is a former General of the British Army. Since retirement he has worked with the UN and World Bank on post-conflict reconstruction and as HM Chief Inspector of Prisons for England and Wales. He was made a Crossbench peer in 2005. He is author of Prisongate: The Shocking State of Britain’s Prisons and the Need for Visionary Change (2003).
