Marjan Wijers

Marjan Wijers works as consultant and researcher in the field of human trafficking, violence against women, sex workers’ rights and human rights. Currently she is pursuing a PhD at Essex University, focusing on human rights and sex workers’ rights. As one of the pioneers of the Dutch Foundation against Trafficking in Women in the 1980s she was closely involved in the negotiations on the UN Trafficking Protocol as member of an alliance of human rights, anti-trafficking and sex workers’ rights organisations and activists. Marjan was one of the co-organisers of the first European sex workers’ conference in Brussels in 2005 and one of the founders of the International Committee for the Rights of Sex Workers in Europe (ICRSE), of which she was a board member from 2005 to 2013. Currently she is a member of the Advisory Board of Proud, the Dutch union of sex workers.
