Jon Bright (London, OK): Richard Stiff, Chairman of the (deep breath) Association of Directors of Children's Services Information Systems and Technology Policy Committee, has voiced fears over the security of the government's new 'ContactPoint' database - particularly about confusion over who is responsible for vetting users. The database, which was set up following the death of Victoria Climbié, will act as a centralised point of access for information on every person in the country under the age of 18, and include their names, ages, addresses and medical histories.
And No2ID, the group campaigning against the introduction of centralised databases such as this, have pointed out that the security of the system has already been called into question, following admissions that children of certain celebrities and famous politicians might be excluded from the database. They are urging people to write to their MPs and ask them if they expect their children to be excluded from the database, and record any replies - or lack of replies - in their forums.
