As the continent prepares to elect a new European Parliament and the UK considers its future within the European Union, a glaring question remains: What is the meaning of Europe? Czech writer, former dissident and now ambassador to the United Kingdom HE Michael Žantovský is joined by a panel of philosophers and political activists at the Watershed in Bristol on May 9th from 18:30 to attempt an answer. Michael Žantovský was a founding member of the Civic Forum, the umbrella organization that coordinated the overthrow of the Communist regime in Czechoslovakia and the peaceful transfer of power during the Velvet Revolution. He subsequently served as the press secretary, spokesman, and political director for President Vaclav Havel. This event is sponsored by UWE, Bristol and the Bristol Festival of Ideas. The event is free of charge, tickets can be reserved through the Festival of Ideas (http://www.ideasfestival.co.uk/2014/events/he-michael-zantovsky/).
