15 January 2013

Our editorial partners Counterpoint  are delighted to organise an event with Tristram Hunt MP on populism and extremism in Greece, the Netherlands and the UK. The event will take place on January 21st from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Grimond Room of Portcullis House, Westminster, London. openDemocracy readers are welcome but places are limited. See event and booking details.

The panel is chaired by Tristram Hunt MP and also includes Aristos Doxiadis, Manos Matsaganis, Yvonne Zonderop, Sunder Katwala, and Catherine Fieschi. See the Reluctant Radicals' partnership page for further examination of the kind of risks that generate support for xenophobic populist parties, as well as the kind of risk these parties pose in political and policy terms.

The UK government is running a secretive unit inside Michael Gove’s Cabinet Office that’s accused of ‘blacklisting’ journalists and hiding ‘sensitive’ information from the public. Experts say they’re breaking the law – and it’s an assault on our right to know what our government is doing.

We’re not going to let it stand. We’re launching a legal battle – but we also need a huge public outcry, showing that thousands back our call for transparency. Will you add your name?
