Fixed fixed? Not quite but getting there

Published:

Anthony Barnett (London, OK): Iain Dale has just put the results of a new poll of MPs up on Fixed Term

44% of all MPs support fixed term parliaments, 49% oppose them

25% of Conservative, 41% of Labour and 88% of LibDem MPs support fixed terms

It also gives you the breakdown on a nationl and gender basis.

There are two ways of looking at this. One is to say that if even MPs are catching on it must happen eventually. The other is  to fall into a profound depression. I can understand why a government may want to keep the right to call a snap election. But surely MPs realise the manipulation and short-termism brings them into disrepute. Why are the majority of both Labour and Conservative members of parliament at the same time spineless and self-important? Any answers please, for a holiday quiz.
