Peter Facey (London, Unlock Democracy): Alex Salmond's visit to Northern Ireland today may be the start of a new chapter in Britain's short history of devolution. One of the main reasons for Scotland's First Minister visit to Stormont is to win backing for a reduction in corporation tax and for more powers, something he and Ian Paisley both want. There is now even the prospect of all three devolved administrations working together to wrest money and powers away from Westminster.
This has long been a feature of Canadian politics with the provinces working together to take on Ottawa. It did not happened here when Scotland and Wales continued to be dominated by Labour. What impact this will have on Westminster and on the devolution debate in England could prove a critical question. Why? Because it may link up with other issues: Britishness, Lords reform, Europe.
