Peter Oborne (London, Daily Mail): I have been making a TV film about Gordon Brown and have been thinking about him a lot. Does he really mean it, when he says that he promises to ‘listen’, to end sofa government, to make the executive and parliament more accountable and to protect people's rights and liberties? I have examined his record in these issues. It is not very good. To keep these promises when he becomes Prime Minister, he will have to change both his methods and – even more difficult – his character. But why should we ask someone to change their character when they become Prime Minister, wouldn't we trust him even less if he did?
