More calls for constitutional convention

Published:

Jon Bright (London, OK): Iain Dale has an interesting article in the Telegraph today calling for a constitutional convention to be held on the issue of the United Kingdom, something that John Jackson, and others from Unlock Democracy, have already argued for strongly on these pages. How can Cameron justify calling for a referendum on the EU, says Dale, but not giving the Scots a referendum on independence, or the English a referendum on their own parliament? Brown specifically ruled out talking about the union in the green paper - could Cameron steal this issue for himself? It would seem most unlikely given past statements but, as Dale points out,  this "is not an issue that is going to disappear just because the Conservatives - and indeed the other parties - ignore it".
